Traveling Mascot Projects
Ollie and Oscar Project- This is a great project organized by a first grade class. Follow the mascots, Ollie and Oscar, as they travel across the globe and find artwork and writing from each classroom stop along the way- Well done.
The Flat Stanley Project- Based upon the story "Flat Stanley", this project provides opportunities for primary and upper elementary students to communicate and develop relationships with other students.
The Teddy Bear Project- Aimed initially at the lower primary/elementary years the first project quickly spread to enthusiastic secondary students. The project aims to enhance understanding and acceptance of diverse cultures for those involved.
Rainbow Friends- Partnered with Highlights, this is a multidisciplinary project involving elementary classroom from around the world. A mascot arrives filled with activities involving the Internet, art, weather, science, cooking, geography, photography and language arts. Classes forward the mascot to other schools and photos are posted on the Highlights website.
Backpack Buddies- Join other primary elementary classrooms as they experience a traveling teddy bear. There are activities to complete in the backpack, postcards, journal entries, email to be sent to the host family while the bear is visiting you, videotaping of events with your class, and other special events that are scheduled throughout the bear's travels.
Travel Buddies- Travel buddies are soft toys or puppets that travel the world as representatives of your class. They may go on a cultural exchange with a single school or travel widely on a path chosen by those who forward him to friends and relatives in other places.
